Overview
Maximize Your Income Tax Refund & Have Your Taxes Prepared for Free
Each year we provide free tax preparation assistance to thousands of Tulsa families with annual incomes of $50,000 or less.
During tax season (January to April 15), CAP's free tax assistance is provided by appointment at several locations throughout Tulsa County. We use trained tax preparers and offer daytime, evening, and weekend hours. One site provides bilingual assistance in Spanish for those who require it.
Our trained preparers assist in preparation of simple federal and state tax forms, and help maximize your refund by filing for all appropriate tax credits (such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit). We file your return electronically to speed your receipt of earned refunds. You may also choose to have your refund deposited directly into your bank account.

Why CAP offers this program
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is our nation's largest and most important anti-poverty program, lifting more children out of poverty than all other means-tested government programs combined.
The EITC was designed to boost income from low-wage work and lessen poverty among families and children. However, many eligible low-wage workers fail to receive the credit and to derive the intended benefits that they have earned. This is particularly true among people who are moving from welfare to work and who are new to the labor market. The IRS has previously estimated that up to 25% of eligible low-wage workers do not receive the credit, simply because they do not know about it or failed to file properly for it.
CAP provides tax preparation services free of charge to eliminate the additional expense of commercial tax preparation that can burden a low-income family. This service also helps clients avoid the high interest loans that some commercial tax preparers charge for "refund anticipation loans."
The goal of CAP's program is to decrease poverty and to expand economic development in Tulsa by increasing the participation rate and use of the EITC by eligible low- and moderate-income families.
