Tax Preparation & ITIN Services for Clients Who Speak English as a Second Language
We provide free tax preparation services for residents of Tulsa and surrounding areas who speak English as a second language. We also file for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for taxpayers who qualify.
Our staff provides bilingual services in English and Spanish. If you speak another native language, such as Russian or Vietnamese, we will attempt to find a translator for you.
One of our free tax preparation sites is devoted to bilingual assistance. To make an appointment, you may call (918) 481-2020 and specify that you need services in Spanish or a language other than English, or you may call 382-3200 and ask to speak with a counselor in our Intercultural Tax Services program.
We also help individuals who do not qualify for a Social Security Number to file W-7 forms and supporting documentation to obtain an Individual Taxpayer Identification number (ITIN) (in Spanish "numero fiscal"). With an ITIN you can backfile up to three years of tax returns, and continue filing taxes on a yearly basis. An ITIN also gives you the opportunity to open a bank account. We provide education about taxpayer rights, responsibilities, and the benefits of filing tax returns.
It is important to emphasize that:
- The ITIN number (a) does not change an individual's immigration status in the U.S.; (b) does not entitle the recipient to Social Security benefits or EITC; and (c) does not give an individual the right to work in the U.S. It is simply a number used to file a tax return or open a bank account.
- A tax return is the best proof that an individual has been residing in the U.S. and also shows "positive moral characteristics" - two qualifications that must be proven when becoming a permanent legal resident of the U.S.
Our education, tax return, and ITIN services are provided year round.
For more information - in English or Spanish - about this program, call 382-3200 and ask to speak to a counselor in our Intercultural Tax Services program.
