Partnership for the Availability of School Supplies (PASS)
In the Tulsa area, thousands of young school children come to school without basic school supplies because their families must juggle the cost of school supplies with the family's budget for food, utilities, clothing, and medications. These local school children begin the school year without pencils, paper, rulers - in other words, without the basic tools they need to learn.
The Partnership for the Availability of Schools Supplies (PASS) is a joint effort between CAP, the Tulsa Community Foundation, and the Schusterman Family Foundation, in conjunction with Tulsa Public and Union Public Schools, to ensure that every child in our elementary classrooms is equipped with the tools to learn and succeed.
The PASS program provides free school supplies to children in schools where 70% or more of the children qualify for the federal free or reduced price lunch program - in other words, to schools with large concentrations of low-income children.
Every year, generous donors in our community (individuals, businesses, and foundations) support the PASS program. In 2008, the PASS coalition provided sets of school supplies to more than 21,500 students in 53 elementary schools within the Tulsa and Union Public School system.
If you are interested in making a donation towards next year's supplies, please send your contribution to the Tulsa Community Foundation - PASS Program, 7030 S. Yale, Suite 600, Tulsa, OK 74136, or contact Andrew J. Morris, Program Officer, Tulsa Community Foundation at (918) 494-8823.
